物理(BA)

描述

的 University offers a bachelor of arts (BA) in physics. This 程序 is designed for students who wish to pursue secondary 教学 opportunities, enroll in a professional 程序s in the medical or health sciences, or combine an interest in physics with a major or minor in another discipline.

  • Coursework in the major includes a core curriculum that provides a strong foundation in physical science 和 problem-solving skills.
  • A central feature of the 程序 is the opportunity to work closely with faculty to build a strong foundation in scientific principles 和 techniques. Each student's experience includes opportunities for 研究 in modern laboratories in a supportive, 鼓励, 和 challenging environment with accessible faculty members 和 personal mentoring.
  • 的 程序 offers an innovative sophomore sequence in modern physics. 学生 are introduced to topics such as special relativity, 量子力学, 激光, 超导体, 核物理, 和 atomic physics during their second year. 的 laboratory component provides h和s-on experience with the instruments 和 software used in industrial 和 academic 研究 facilities.
  • Results of student 研究 projects are published in journals 和 featured at scientific conferences. This practical 研究 experience is essential preparation for professional or advanced academic work. 学生 may receive course credits or be employed as 研究 assistants. Summer fellowships are also available.
  • A number of activities 和 organizations are available that enable students to interact with other students 和 professionals in the industry, including the University's chapter of the Society of Physics 学生—和 Sigma Pi Sigma, the physics honor society.

Note: In addition to the bachelor of arts (BA) in physics, the University offers a bachelor of science (BS) in physics.

必修课程

职业生涯

Our graduates are prepared for careers in engineering, 计算机科学, 研究, 教学, 政府, 和更多的. 的 employment rate among physicists has been consistently above the national average, 和 one of the highest among science majors. 在美国, the employment rate six months after graduation for physics degree recipients is currently at 98 percent.

Science 和 technology industries recognize that global competitiveness depends on an educated work force. A physics education develops problem-solving skills 和 provides the ability to apply 和 adapt scientific knowledge within the workplace. Because of this training, physicists excel in solving complex problems, which allows them to seek employment in a wide range of academic, 政府, 和 industrial settings well beyond the traditional boundaries of physics.

金融援助 & 奖学金

学生 have many sources of 金融支持 为了他们的学习, 包括经济援助, 勤工俭学, 退伍军人的福利, 和 special scholarships for entering freshmen 和 transfer students.

In addition, the 部门 of Chemistry 和 Physics awards numerous scholarships.
